The star has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his latest record his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The donation helped locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

The musician is among several artists to donate his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

Back when the band received the trophy in 1996 for their release Different Class, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the act would contribute their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her prize across multiple charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed better apparatus," the artist shared with outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was ample," remarked vocalist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved two grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in that area and the other in the city were bought under the community ownership program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
